Consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on children with a speech and language disorder and their therapy

2021

Background The COVID-19 pandemic caused massive restrictions in our daily life. Kindergartens and schools were closed (lockdown) and children were forced to pause their therapy. Materials and Methods We conducted a survey during August and October 2020 and asked parents of children with a speech and language disorder about their child's therapy during lockdown and their fears and sorrows associated with it. Results Parents of 39 children participated (age: 6,15 years (3,06 - 10,09)). 34 children received speech therapy before lockdown. This therapy was paused for 17 children during lockdown. The other 17 children still received speech therapy during lockdown with the following alterations: …

Auditory, speech and language development in young children with cochlear implants compared with children with normal hearing.

2010

Abstract Objective This study had two aims: (1) to document the auditory and lexical development of children who are deaf and received the first cochlear implant (CI) by the age of 16 months and the second CI by the age of 31 months and (2) to compare these children's results with those of children with normal hearing (NH). Methods This longitudinal study included five children with NH and five with sensorineural deafness. All children of the second group were observed for 36 months after the first fitting of the device (cochlear implant). The auditory development of the CI group was documented every 3 months up to the age of two years in hearing age and chronological age and for the NH gro…

Kustību rotaļas kā divus gadus vecu bērnu runas veicinātājas

2021

Kalvāns, I. Stangaine un krievu autori L. Vigotskis, G. Uruntajeva, D. Elkoņins u.c. Tika aplūkotas divus gadus…

Przebieg rozwoju mowy u dzieci z SLI-PE i LB – analiza porównawcza

2017

Newborn hearing-screening project using transient evoked otoacoustic emissions: western sicily experience

2006

Summary Objective To study the incidence of congenital sensorineural hearing loss in all newborns introducing a screen test with a protocol no expensive, with a good “screen sensitivity” that could let an earlier identification of hearing impairment beginning early intervention by 2 months of age and increasing the probability of having language development within the normal range of development. Methods The study was conducted in Sciacca hospital from the beginning of 2003 to our days and was carried out with transient evoked otoacoustic emission using the criteria for PASS or RETEST and considering eventual prenatal and perinatal risk factors. All the newborns were divided into four group…

Zaburzenia neurorozwojowe. Zmiany w podejściu teoretycznym i diagnostycznym

2019

Na potrzeby diagnozy i terapii powstały typologie medyczne o zasięgu ogólnoświatowym. Do najbardziej znanych i powszechnie stosowanych zalicza się ICD (ang. International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems) – Międzynarodową Statystyczną Klasyfikację Chorób i Problemów Zdrowotnych ICD oraz DSM (ang. Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) – Klasyfikację Zaburzeń Psychicznych DSM, których nowe edycje stanowią przedmiot zainteresowań autorek. W artykule wskazano światowe trendy i kierunki zmian, jakie się dokonują w obszarze terminologii i kategoryzowania zaburzeń rozwoju psychicznego (neurorozwojowych) i związanych z nimi rozwojowych zaburzeń jęz…

Co utrudnia opis logopedycznych zjawisk? Od słuchoniemoty, afazji wrodzonej i alalii do specyficznego zaburzenia językowego (SLI)

2016

This article, dedicated to Professor Stanisław Gajda because of his anniversary, raises theoretical issues of accuracy and explicitness of terms used in science which are familiar to him. Logopaedics, by virtue of its interdisciplinary character and exposure to borderline of numerous and often very distant from each other sciences such as anatomy, linguistics or physics, significantly uses appropriate for these sciences tools of descriptions (freąuently doubling notions) and thus, it represents a very good example of discipline in which unnecessary overgrowth of terminology makes it difficult to track research results and ąuality analysis of phenomena. Specific Language Impairment (SLI) is …
